Setting Up Your Display
· Choose a safe location
· Make sure your display area is large enough for the fireworks you're using. Check the safety distances on each product.
· Point away from buildings
· Aim fireworks away from houses, sheds, fences, and any structures.
· Clear the area
· Remove leaves, brush, and any flammable materials from your display area.
· Prepare for emergencies
· Have buckets of water or a garden hose ready. Know where your first aid kit is.
· Control your spectators
· Set up a clear viewing area away from the firing zone. Consider rope barriers for larger displays.
Storage Tips
· Keep cool and dry - Store fireworks in a cool, dry place away from heat sources
· Out of reach - Keep fireworks where children cannot access them
· Original packaging - Keep fireworks in their original packaging until use
· Away from flames - Never store near naked flames, heaters, or in direct sunlight
· Check for damage - Inspect fireworks before use - don't use damaged items
Emergency First Aid
· If someone gets burned:
· Stay calm - Panic doesn't help anyone
· Cool the burn - Run cool (not cold) water over the burn for at least 10 minutes
· Don't pull fabric - If clothing is stuck to the burn, cut around it - never pull
· Cover loosely - Use a clean, non-fluffy material (cling film works well)
· Seek medical help - If in doubt, go straight to A&E
When to go to hospital: Any burn larger than a 50p coin, burns on the face/hands/joints, or if a child is injured - always get it checked professionally.
